Friend or foe? Pleasure or poison? There was much discussion about wine in the last ten years. Let's take a look at how this "nectar of the gods" affects adults over 50 years. The study is based on "moderate" consumption of wine, defined as no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men. One drink is defined as five ounces of wine.
The Good (assuming that wine is not contraindicated because of the medication, disease - includingAlcoholism - or for other reasons):
• Lowers blood sugar
• Improved heart health
• Improves body insulin sensitivity
• Reduces the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia
• Increases bone density
• Improved social interaction
• Improves appetite (this could be good or bad, depending)
The Bad and The Ugly (especially when drunk more) as moderate:
• Raises triglycerides
• Increases blood pressure
• Increases the stomach --fat
• Higher risk of falls
• Increases the chance to participate in a vehicle accident
• increases the risk of breast cancer in women (10% for a drink, 40% for two to five drinks)
• The abuse of alcohol (about 12% of people 55 and older have an alcohol problem)
• Does the short-term memory
• Adverse interactions with other medicines (either a magnifying glass or minimize) the impact
• Increased risk of oral cancer
• The consumption of calories in the form ofAlcohol instead of nutritious foods
And, as we age, keeping in mind that our body is more susceptible to the effects of alcohol - we can no longer be able, as we were when we were younger, drink (assuming that we have) then drink. Thus, the wine is good for you? Show in moderation, without contraindications, the majority of scientific studies, that is, for most people the answer is yes.
